Alcove
Everything you need to know about Alcove. Can't find an answer? Feel free to reach out.
Alcove is a macOS menu bar app that lets you keep your favourite apps, links, and tools tucked away and instantly accessible. It lives quietly in your menu bar and slides out whenever you need it — no clutter, no distraction.
Alcove requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It is a native Mac app built with SwiftUI, optimised for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs alike.
Download the DMG file from this page, open it, and drag Alcove into your Applications folder. It's important to do this before launching the app — running it directly from the DMG may cause unexpected behaviour. Once it's in Applications, double-click to launch.
Alcove is free to download and try. A one-time purchase unlocks all features permanently — no subscription required. Once you buy it, you own it forever including all future updates for that major version.
Alcove is notarised by Apple but distributed outside the Mac App Store. If Gatekeeper blocks it, right-click (or Control-click) the app in your Applications folder and choose Open. You'll see a prompt — click Open again to confirm. You only need to do this once.
Alcove checks for updates automatically in the background. When a new version is available, you'll see a badge in the menu bar icon and a prompt to update. You can also check manually via Alcove → Check for Updates in the menu bar.
Quit Alcove from the menu bar, then drag it from your Applications folder to the Trash. To remove all associated data (preferences, cache), you can also delete ~/Library/Application Support/Alcove and ~/Library/Preferences/com.alcove.app.plist.
Use the built-in feedback button inside the app (click the ··· menu in the Alcove panel), or send an email directly. Your reports go straight to the developer and are read personally — no support ticket queue.
Every update, fix, and improvement — in one place.
One app, one price. No subscriptions, no gotchas — just Alcove, yours forever.

Don't take our word for it — here's what people are saying.
Alcove completely changed my workflow. I keep Figma, Notion, and all my daily links one keystroke away. My desk is finally clean — digitally speaking.
March 2026Best $29 I've spent on a Mac utility. The one-time pricing model is exactly what indie apps should do. No subscription anxiety, just a great app.
February 2026I'm a developer and I was skeptical — another menu bar app? But Alcove is genuinely different. The multi-shelf system and web clips are killer features for power users.
February 2026Finally uninstalled five other apps because Alcove does everything I needed them for. The Notes widget alone saved me from keeping a browser tab open constantly.
January 2026As a UX designer I'm picky about apps. Alcove's attention to detail is remarkable — the animations, the spacing, the way it just gets out of the way. Polished doesn't cover it.
January 2026iCloud sync is a game-changer. Same panel on my MacBook and my studio Mac, always in sync. Exactly what I needed for working across two machines.
March 2026Support is unbelievably fast. Sent a bug report on a Friday evening and had a fix in a new build by Sunday. Rare to see this level of care from an indie dev.
February 2026Switched from a competitor app and the difference is night and day. Alcove feels like it was actually designed for humans. Everything is where you expect it to be.
